Your Initial Connection to the Internet

When your devices connect to the internet, data travels from your home router through ISP (Internet Service Provider) equipment located in neighborhood utility boxes. From there, it reaches broader networks that form the internet backbone.

The Journey Begins

Your router receives data from your device and forwards it to your ISP's equipment. The ISP acts as your gateway to the broader internet, connecting your local network to regional and national infrastructure. From there, data can travel nationally or internationally to reach its destination.

How Data Routing Works

The internet uses "packets" to transmit data—think of them like postal letters carrying information. Each packet contains the sender's address (IP address) and the destination address, similar to how postal mail works.
